The Walt Disney Co. has made a $2.5 billion bet that it will gain approval from regulators to consummate the proposed acquisition of much of 21st Century Fox. That's the termination fee outlined in the deal to create a global content powerhouse.

Now that Disney's Bob Iger and Fox's Rupert Murdoch have made their big announcement, the deal will be reviewed at the Justice Department and possibly by other agencies like the Federal Communications Commission. Particularly scrutinized will be industry consolidation of large production studios, regional sports networks being put under the roof of the company that owns »

Of course, The Simpsons called it first.

In a blockbuster deal announced Thursday, The Walt Disney Co. is acquiring assets from 21st Century Fox including the 20th Century Fox movie studio.

The deal had been brewing for weeks, but The Simpsons called it back in 1998.

The show has been known to make eerie premonitions in its 28-year history, so it is not at all shocking that this particular gag came true.

The joke plays out in the season 10 episode "When You Dish Upon a Star," which premiered in November, 1998.

The episode, written by Richard Appel and directed »

Tim Goodman: The Best TV of 2017

Peak TV is way more than a cliché. In 2016, there were 455 scripted series. In 2017? When the tally is official, it could exceed 500. So if you needed even more proof that the Top 10 list for TV is outdated and unfair to the efforts of creators, there you go.

For my annual Best of 2017 TV Series list, my goal was to reward deserving shows no matter the total (as usual). How to not just include everything, or truly separate the great from the very good? Simple, really. Of the series I've seen, these 46 had to »

[Warning: this story contains major spoilers for the season three finale of USA Network's Mr. Robot.]

The common greeting among Mr. Robot fans, "Hello, friend," doesn't feel entirely appropriate given the ghost from the past who just walked back into Elliot Alderson's life… but hello, just the same.

Hours after the announcement of a fourth season renewal for the USA Network drama, Mr. Robot closed the book on season three, undoing much (though certainly not all) of the damage Rami Malek's Elliot has wreaked over the course of the series. Though there's no taking »

The late-night talk shows taped Tuesday's shows before the results of last night's Alabama Senate race, but that didn't stop the hosts from talking about senator-elect Doug Jones' shocking win over Republican Roy Moore on Wednesday.

Everyone from Jimmy Fallon to Stephen Colbert had something to say about Moore's loss, which was aided by the overwhelming turnout of African-American women for Jones.

On The Tonight Show, Fallon welcomed correspondent Yamaneika Saunders onstage, who joked that her back was hurting. "Oh no, your back is hurting?" Fallon prompted. "Yeah, every black woman's back is hurting — from carrying the election »

'Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers' Castaways Face "The Survivor Devil"

[This recap contains spoilers for the Wednesday, December 13 episode of Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers.]

I can't imagine there's a single Survivor fan who didn't come away from the end of Wednesday's episode with the same two-word reaction:

"You Dummies."

If the contestants on this Survivor season were so anxious to give Ben a million bucks, why couldn't they have crowdsourced or done a telethon and let other people who wanted to play Survivor complete to win Survivor?

I'm just baffled by what went down on Wednesday's episode because on the scale of avoidable Survivor shockers go, this »
